A few points to remember
In preparing yourself for surgery, try to relax as completely as you can. The professional staff and all policies and procedures at the Fairgrounds Surgical Center have been specifically designed to meet your needs and to help ensure that your visit at the Center will be as pleasant as possible. If at any time before, during or after your stay, you have any questions or comments concerning the Fairgrounds Surgical Center, please bring them to our attention.

Please follow these important instructions; they are for your safety and comfort.
  1. If you develop a cold, influenza, or any chest or stomach complaint in the week preceding your operation, please call your surgeon, he may wish to postpone your surgery.

  2. If you are taking any pills or other medication, please consult the anesthesiologist or your surgeon for instructions. These medicines normally should be taken as usual up to, and including the day before surgery.

  3. If you find on the day of surgery you are unable to keep your appointment or you are going to be late, please notify the center (610) 821-2020.

  4. Leave all jewelry and other valuables at home or with your family. If the business office has informed you of a balance that is due before surgery, bring only that amount. Leave all other monies at home.

  5. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to take off. Please do not wear make-up or nail polish to the center. Make-up and nail polish will be removed before you go to surgery.

  6. If you wear dentures, a partial plate, or any other prosthesis you will be asked to remove them just before going to surgery. We will label the items and keep them in a secure place until after your surgery.

  7. A nurse will call you the day before your surgery and inform you of the time to report to the center for surgery.

  8. For the comfort, privacy and safety of all patients, we must limit 2 adult visitors per patient. Additional visitors and small children are welcome to stay in the waiting area with a responsible adult.

  9. A responsible family member or other adult must accompany you at the center and drive you home. This adult should be present to assist you during your recovery at home for a least the first 24-hours.

  10. You are advised not to perform any task that requires skill, coordination, or judgment for 24 hours after your discharge from the Center. Drugs such as alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, and all related medicines will have an increased effect for several hours following anesthesia, and should be strictly avoided until the day after surgery, unless advised otherwise by the anesthesiologist or your surgeon.

  11. If you have any questions pertaining to your care, call your surgeon or the Center during regular working hours at (610) 821-2020. On the day after your surgery, you will receive a follow-up call from a nurse at the Center.

  12. Your physician wants you to know that you have been scheduled for an outpatient surgical procedure. There are no overnight beds in this facility. If a problem or complication develops during your surgical experience, it will be necessary to transfer you to an inpatient hospital setting.

  13. Since the surgical center is an outpatient surgical facility, it does not accept or honor advanced directives. Life threatening emergency which requires treatment at a hospital will be handled by transfers to an area hospital.

  14. You may plan to spend an average of two to four hours from the time you arrive at the facility to the time of discharge. The length of stay is determined by the type of procedure and anesthesia given.

  15. Any suggestions you may have for the center may be written on your post surgery questionnaire.
